Why ride a dune buggy at night?
- Cool desert air. Once the sun has gone down, the temperature drops quickly โ a big advantage in the warmer months.
- A completely different ride. In the dark you read the dunes from your headlights and the guide’s lights ahead. Every crest feels like a small discovery.
- Stars away from the city lights. On a clear night, the sky over the dunes is far darker than anything you see in Dubai, and the photo stop becomes a stargazing stop.
- Firmer sand. As the sand cools, it often feels a little firmer under the tyres than in the heat of the afternoon.
- Perfect after a day in the city. Spend the day sightseeing, then head to the desert for an evening adventure.

How we keep night rides safe
Night riding is only safe with the right preparation, and this is where choosing an experienced operator matters most.
- Routes our guides know by heart. We ride familiar ground at night โ no exploring unknown dunes in the dark.
- The guide leads, always. You follow the lead vehicle’s lights and tracks, and nobody overtakes.
- Headlights on every buggy and a clear gap between vehicles so each driver can see the ground ahead.
- A calmer pace. The guide sets a speed that suits darkness and the least experienced driver in the group.
- Extra briefing points: how to follow lights, what the hand and light signals mean, and what to do if you lose sight of the buggy ahead (stop and wait โ the guide comes back).
- Helmets and harnesses are mandatory whenever the buggy moves, exactly as in the day.
- Weather check. If wind or blowing sand reduces visibility, we move your booking.
Driving at night: what feels different
- Depth is harder to judge. Dunes look flatter in headlights. Trust the guide’s line rather than your own guess.
- Ease off earlier at crests. You see less of what is beyond a ridge, so lift the throttle a little sooner than you would in daylight.
- Keep the gap. Following too closely means your lights fill with the dust of the buggy in front.
- Smooth inputs. Gentle throttle and steering keep the beam steady, so you can read the sand ahead.
- Enjoy the stop. When the guide switches the lights off at the photo stop, give your eyes a minute to adjust โ the stars are the reward.
Our blog on how to prepare for a night-time buggy ride has more detail.

Who the night ride is for
- Guests who have done the classic daytime ride and want something new.
- Summer visitors who want to avoid the heat of the day.
- Couples and friends looking for an unusual evening in Dubai.
- Photographers interested in star and light-trail shots (bring a small tripod for the stop).
If this is your very first time in a buggy and you feel nervous, we usually suggest a daytime ride first โ try the morning dune buggy tour or a 30-minute Polaris RZR ride. Night riding is not recommended during pregnancy or for anyone with back, neck or heart problems.
What to wear and bring
- Long sleeves and long trousers โ the desert cools fast after dark.
- A light jacket from November to March.
- Closed shoes โ no flip-flops.
- Clear glasses or none โ goggles are provided; sunglasses are no use at night.
- A phone pouch or zip-lock bag against fine sand.
